The ask bar: ask, add or find
One box at the bottom of every page. Type to search, press Enter to ask the assistant, or tap the mic and talk.
Included on every plan
The ask bar sits at the bottom of Today, Calendar, Lists, Plans and most other pages. It says Ask, add or find.
Find something
Start typing. After two letters, a Matches panel opens above the bar with results grouped by type: tasks, calendar, email, contacts, plans, notes, memories and more. Click a match to open it.
Ask or add something
Press Enter instead. Your message goes to the assistant and the answer appears right above the bar, without leaving the page. Some things to try:
- “remind me Friday at 3 to call Mom”
- “add milk to my grocery list”
- “what’s on my calendar tomorrow?”
- “move my dentist appointment to next Thursday at 10”
Keep typing to reply. Once a conversation is going, the bar answers instead of searching. Click + New chat to start over (and to search again), or Open in Chat to continue the same conversation full size.
Talk instead
Tap the mic, speak, and stop talking. It notices the pause, writes down what you said and sends it.
Handy keys
- Shift + Enter adds a new line.
- Esc closes the panel.
When the assistant adds or changes something, Today updates in place. You don’t need to reload.
The conversation follows you from page to page for about two hours in the same browser tab. To send a photo, use Chat.
